Block 3. Devils at Blues

The Blues come out firing and Varlamov held the fort for the Devils. Connor Hellebucyk on the other side was anything but great. The young netminder gets yanked as he had a difficult night and nothing seemed to go right for the Blues as they take it on the chin. Devils dominated the last two periods as St.Louis could get nothing going, and NJ picks up an easy win.

GAME STORY
In a close game, New Jersey topped the Blues by a final score of 5 to
3. New Jersey quieted the crowd early, scoring 3 times in the first period.
FILIP FORSBERG had two goals and contributed one assist for St. Louis.
Other goal scorers were BRAYDEN SCHENN, CLAYTON KELLER, JONATHAN HUBERDEAU,
TANNER PEARSON and NINO NIEDERREITER for New Jersey and MIKAEL GRANLUND
for St. Louis.

Boston at St.Louis Block 3

This game is no indication of the score. Boston totally dominated the first 12-15 minutes of the game . At one point the shots were 10-2 for Boston. Bob has done a fantastic job of assembling some great talent and this is one team I would not want to play in the playoffs. They are stacked! Great job Bob!

What luck we did not have against NJ, we certainly had in spades against this powerful Bruins club. From the second period on, every card and number chance seemed to go St.Louis’s way. There are some games when things never seem right, and their are games like this. All I can say is the Blues got very lucky, despite the score, as their powerplay clicked and they do stuff like score on a dice roll of 2 (1-7) …see Eric Staal’s goal.

GAME STORY
On their home ice the Blues easily handled Boston by a score of 6 to 1.
St. Louis was relentless outshooting Boston 47 to 34. St. Louis finished
with a flurry scoring 4 times in the third period. JAKE GARDINER recorded
three assists for St. Louis. CONNOR HELLEBUYCK was outstanding in goal.
He made just one mistake while facing 34 shots. The goals were scored
by BLAKE WHEELER for Boston and ERIC STAAL, EVGENY KUZNETSOV, KYLE TURRIS,
MILAN LUCIC, JUSTIN FAULK and NIKITA ZADOROV for St. Louis.

Dallas block 3

LOS ANGELES-   The Kings & Stars combined for 26 shots in the 1st period, but nothing hit the back of the net till Brad Marchand scored early in Period Two!  That lead didnt last long as Jonathan Toews, who came over from the Isle in a pre-season deal, lit the Lamp, then Ovie slammed home a PPG for a 2-1 lead into the Final period!  With the Kings clogging up neutral-ice & staying patient with the one Goal lead, it payed off when Craig Smith turned Mike Hoffman inside out & he made it 3-1 !  Viktor Arvidsson would draw Stars close when he went 5-hole on Martin Jones to make it 3-2!   Stars pressing late, Bobrovsky looking to the bench, but Erik Karlsson flips the puck outta play & gets a delay of game penalty  to end any hopes of a comeback!  3-2 Final  The Victory by the Kings ended a 6-game losing streak in Dallas, dating back two seasons ago!

MINNESOTA-  Coach Dale Hunter didnt have to remind his guys that it was the Wild who beat us in Game 6 in the Playoffs, sending them to the” Swain Cup Finals”, but he did anyway, shouting at his team in the dressing room!  It seemed like a Playoff game as both Quick & Bobrovsky kept it Scoreless thru 40 minutes!  Five minutes into period 3 & Brayden Point pushed home a rebound to break the ice!  Derick Brassard  would tie it up, then Bob robs Nathan MacKinnon(1-10)on the Power-Play, one of 5 man-advantages the Wild received in this contest!  Rookie Erik Gustafsson, in the line-up for Joel Edmundson, who was scratched with a lower-body injury, Scored his 1st Career GHC Goal & it turned out to be the Winner in a 3-1 Final!  Stars PK was key to win, keeping Wild scoreless in 5 Chances!
BOSTON-  With the score tied at two into the 3rd, Mats Zuccarello gave the B’s a 3-2 lead with a PPG, the Bruins 2nd of the game!  The Stars then exploded for 3 Goals in a minute & a half on Kari((Let-them-in)Lehtonen!  Dallas sat on the 5-3 lead until veteran Corey Perry scored on a Breakaway with 2 minutes left!  With the extra-attacker on, Leon Draisaitl has a last second chance, but “Bob” kicks it aside & Stars win 5-4!  Jamie Benn was denied on a SH Breakaway in the 2nd period!  Coach Hunter was happy holding the GHC’s League Leader in Points(McDavid) to just two assists & one SOG!
VANCOUVER-  Cam Atkinson had the lone tally thru 40 minutes, as the Stars got back to playing the neutral-zone trap(1-0,1-1)after that run & gun game the night before(Boston).  Viktor Arvidsson made it 2-0 early in the 3rd, then with just 7 minutes to go, Adam Lowry broke up Reimer’s shutout bid & the Canucks were back in the game!  However, just a minute later, Boone Jenner misses his check(Int) & Arvidsson(1-16)roofs it for his 2nd of the period & Stars go on to win 3-1!  Dallas avoided the Referee’s Wrath & stayed outta the box until Reimer got a slashing penalty with just 5 seconds to go in game!
VEGAS-  The Golden Knights were rolling in the 1st period, with a 15-7 shot advantage & a 1-0 lead on a Victor Hedman blast!  All bets were off in period two when Cam Atkinson finally solved Curtis McElhinney halfway thru, then with just seconds to go in the period, Jacob Silfverberg turned on the Red Light too!  Early in period three, the Dallas Dog-Pound let out a howl when Jay Beagle Scored to make it 3-1!  Stars would add a Power-Play Goal for a 4-1 Final , as the Home team would kill all 5 PP chances for the visitors! Coach Hunter in the post-game show said ” We got outshot badly in this one, but for the most part, we kept them to the outside & Bob was good”
