Colorado post Season preview

2017 Avalanche Post Season Preview

Patrick Roy and the Avalanche set a goal at the beginning of the season. Let’s make the playoffs this year.

The Avs began the season with its normal abysmal start. By the midway point it appeared that their chances were once again slipping away and an opportunity for growth and a playoff spot thwarted. Their young core were working hard but underperforming when it came right down to it. High scoring Steven Stamkos was lost to injury for the season after igniting a spark for the club. Goaltending that was counted on to keep pucks out were allowing goals by the boat loads. Something drastic needed to be done.

TRADE DEADLINE: Roy had seen enough and he knew that if his young guns were going to succeed, then they needed some savvy veteran leadership to lead them the rest of the way. The Avalanche management quickly went to work and started to make deals to obtain the type of players the young core needed to learn from. Enter Ryan Getzlaf and Joe Pavelski from Winnipeg for Ryan Johansen and Markus Nutivaara. Then an addition of Kyle Palmieri from Vancouver for Tuukka Rask. These three players added the grit and tenacity that was vividly missing from the core group. All of a sudden this team became a team of destiny. A team to be reckoned with. They finished with a 15-5 record after the trade deadline. Not only capturing a playoff spot but finishing in 5th place overall. A great accomplishment for this young team.

The Avalanche are excited to be playing in the post season for the first time in franchise history (at least under this ownership group) and are looking to make some waves and gain some much needed experience along the way. Patrick Roy was quoted: ”I know that lots of teams had us out of the picture, but we are here now, and will be here for a while. So our loyal fans should get excited for some great playoff hockey. Our team is built to last. So let’s GO AVS!!”

Kevin Anton – Colorado Avalanche

Dallas block 8

TORONTO- Two 2nd period PP Goals had the Stars taking a 2-0 lead into the last period, when Sven Baertschi beat Reimer to cut lead in half! But the story of this game was the Star’s special teams, as halfway thru period three, James Van Riemsdyk took a cross-checking penalty, then Brad Marchand & Leaf’s Goalie Jake Allen were fencing each other , but Allen got the only call, slashing to put Leafs two men short! On the ensuing 5 on 3, Jacob Silfverberg scored, then Mike Hoffman scored with Toronto still a man short! Stars go 4/4 on the Power-Play & fight off four chances by the Leafs in the game for a 4-1 Win!

ST LOUIS- Goals by Kyle Turris in the 1st period & Evgeny Kuznetsov in the 2nd period had Blues in front 2-0 into period three! Carey Price, who stopped the Stars first 8 ratings, finally gets beat as J T Miller slips one by 11 minutes into period three! J T would then tie game with two minutes to go & send game to the Stars 12th Overtime-Shootout game of the season on Home Ice! In OT, Brent Burns, who had an OT Winner earlier in the season in Dallas, had a rebound chance that Reimer kicked away! The Stars, who had lost twice at home to the Blues this season, finally beat the top team in the League, as Brad Marchand delivers his 1st OT Winner!

VANCOUVER- The Hot Dog & Beer sales have broken a record this season at American Airlines Arena, as the Stars played their 13th home game of the year that went to Overtime & their 20th overall including the road! How we got there: Andrei Markov, who announced he’s going back to Russia (like Datsyuk did)at end of season(damn Russians)scored in the 1st period & the Canucks Roman Josi tied it in the 2nd! A 1-1 game into the 3rd when Dallas got their 1st PP chance of the game & the Stars 1st round pick(12th Overall)in 2016 Colton Parayko scored his 1st of the season for a 2-1 lead! Halfway thru period 3 & Boone Jenner cashed in a rebound as Vancouver tied the score! The game remained tied as the horn sounded & the fans went to get another Dog & Beer! In OT, Alex Galchenyuk took a tripping penalty right off the opening face-off & the Stars had two good chances(ratings) to score on the Power-Play but newly acquired Goalie Tukka Rask said No! To the 9th shootout of the season at home & the 2nd vs Vancouver who won an earlier shootout in Dallas, but this time the Stars Brad Marchand scored the only Goal in the Shootout, raising their home shootout record to 4-5 as they have won their last 3 shootouts on home ice!
<

CHICAGO- The Stars 4th line scored twice(Hoffman & Point) in a 3-1 Stars Win that gave Dallas a 2-2 split vs the Hawks at home on the season! Dallas dominated in this one, outshooting Chicago 51-15 & if it wasnt for Braden Holtby(11/13 gr’s), the game score could have been lopsided! Holtby held the visitors in game as Dallas took a 2-0 lead into the last period when Mark Giordano scored on a breakaway just 22 seconds in. But that was all the offense Chicago could muster as Ryan Kesler scored on a PP to produce Final Score!

LOS ANGELES- Stars end regular season with a 5 Goal 2nd period in a 6-1 Win over the Kings, sending Los Angeles to a 4th straight loss in Texas this season! Mark Letestu scored his 1st of the season as 6 different Stars lit the lamp! For Dallas, it was their 8th straight Win on Home Ice as they head to the Playoff’s!
