Dallas block 4

VANCOUVER- The Vancouver Canucks, looking to rebound after the Christmas break as they hovered near the bottom of the League, made some lineup changes & defeated the 5th place Stars 3-2 in a Shootout! Vancouver got Goals from Alex Galchenyuk & Jesper(not so)Fast for a 2-0 1st period lead! Stars tied game in 2nd as Cam(who was also robbed 1-13)Atkinson & Erik Karlsson scored. No scoring in the 3rd or OT, so off to the Shootout where the Stars were 0-2 at home, make that 0-3, as Craig Anderson stops both Dallas snipers, while 1st Star Alex Galchenyuk & David Krejei both undressed James Reimer!

CHICAGO- A late PP for the Hawks with just two & a half minutes left & trailing by a Goal, saw Max Pacioretty get stoned(1-8) by Philipp Grubauer, who preserved a 2-1 Victory over the Defending Cup Champions! All 3 Goals were scored in the 1st period as Holtby & Grubauer would not be beaten again! Unsung hero for Dallas was Nick Holden, who came over from the Wild in a pre-season trade, as he laid out 3 crushing Hits in this contest!

LOS ANGELES- The “Little Ball of Hate” Brad( suspend me) Marchand had the “Hat Trick” & a Career high 5 Points, including 2 Goals & 2 Assists, in a 5 Goal 3rd period that blew open a 2-2 game! Dallas scored 5 times on just 7 shots, erasing the many bad memories of the King’s dominance they once had at American Airlines Arena! ( Was it like 7 Wins in a row) James Reimer was overshadowed by Marchand ,but the Ex-Islander had a good game, stopping 37 shots(10/12 gr’s)in getting great run support!

NEW YORK I- James Reimer, who fell out of favor in New York as Devan Dubynk’s back-up & was moved to Dallas for youngster Tobias Rieder, got his 1st start vs his former team! Reimer didnt have his best stuff, as a couple of knucklers got by him, including Tobias Rieder, who scored his 1st Goal of the season against his former team! The game was tied at three as regulation & OT expired & into the skills competition we go! The Stars, who were 0-3 at home & 2-5 overall in shootouts didnt look to excited on the bench when Patrice Bergeron wound up & skated in on Reimer, but a glove save had the bench cheering! Marchand dekes, save Dubynk! The Islander’s Mike Fisher, who’s set to retire after this season, still has that magic & beats Reimer easily! Cam Atkinson races to the net, brakes, shoots, SCORES! Tied! Kevin Hayes, up for New York, skates in, poke-checked by Reimer & the Stars can win it! Coach Dale Hunter surprises everyone & points to Mike Hoffman, who was -2 in regulation & berated by Hunter during the game as his Shooter. Hoffman gets to the face-off dot & unloads a slapper that whizzed right by Dubynk’s ear into the net! Stars Win 4-3! Woo

SAN JOSE- A 1-1 game into the 3rd & Tyler Seguin scores his 2nd Goal of the night for a 2-1 lead! Two minutes later, Erik Karlsson ties it up! Stars pinching in & cough up a Breakaway, Vladimir Tarasenko restores the one Goal lead for San Jose! That other Russian Nikita Kucherov, avoids a Marchand hit & hikes lead to 4-2 with just 7 minutes left! In desperation, with just two minutes left, Reimer heads to the bench & it pays off as Marchand scores his 2nd of the game to make it 4-3! 22 seconds left, Kesler wins the draw, Jake Muzzin with the puck & he draws a Pass L (not this year) & Nazem Kadri smothers the puck as the horn sounds! Sharks Win 4-3! Damn those Russians!

4. Hawks at Blues

Like their playoff series the last two years this was another classic. Typical playoff game that saw back and forth action and fantastic goaltending. Carey Price was terrific in net for the Blues but Brayden Holtby stole the show stopping all 37 shots and all 10 goalie ratings in regulation time. The Blues score twice in the shootout and Tavares was the only goal scorer for the Hawks. St.Louis wins a nail biter 1-0 via the shootout.

GAME STORY
In their home arena St. Louis needed a shootout to beat Chicago by the
score of 1 to 0. The shootout’s game deciding goal was scored by MIKAEL
GRANLUND. St. Louis was 2 for 3 in shootout attempts, while Chicago
went 1 for 3. Both teams played solid defense as the offenses struggled
to score. St. Louis was relentless outshooting Chicago 37 to 23. CAREY
PRICE was outstanding in goal. He was flawless in the shutout while facing
23 shots.

4. Islanders at Blues

Bit of a frustrating game. The Islanders tie it on a dice roll midway through the third period throwing a 2 and then getting a goal on a 1-9. Next few shifts Scheifele rolls a 1-15 goal and pulls an 18. The wild back and forth game goes to a shootout where the Islanders toss two 8’s for automatic shootout goals and the Blues could feel the Strat Gods looking down and giggling.
Each goalie was terrific stopping a boatload of goalie ratings and the Blues manage just one shot in the overtime.
