Upset alert!!! Islanders torch their former teammate, Martin Jones, and take a commanding 2-0 lead!
The entire Islanders organization was shocked to win both games on the road… and it must have really fired them up!
Game 3: It was all New York for the first 45 minutes of the game… We out shot LA 30-15 and took a 1-0 lead into the 3rd period. Cammalleri scored early to make it 2-0 and shortly after Big Buff made it 3-0! Some fans were leaving early to beat the traffic when Ekholm made it a game again… Kane would make it 3-2 with 9 minutes to play. Kings were not done, and on the PP, Mika Zibanejad scores his 2nd of the series to even the game at 3 goals. New York was stunned but not finished… Matt Cullen would take a bad penalty in overtime and Alex Steen on the 50th shot by New York lit the lamp to give the Isle the 3-0 series lead!
Game 4: The first 10,000 fans were given a “Patrice Bergeron Hockey Stick Broom” to try and help sweep the Kings out of New York… Shea Weber caught wind of that and was not happy… He scored the first two goals of the game and almost had a 3rd, before David Perron would score a PP goal to shorten the lead by one… Bergeron would tie the game at 2 goals with his 4th of the series (one each game) midway thru the 3rd period. 3 minutes later, there was a mad scramble in front of the net… Gionta would poke the puck by his former teammate Martin Jones to give the Islanders the lead.. but wait!? Coaches challenge?? Did Gionta interfere with Jones? Brian Gionta, the veteran, sneaks a G 1-3… (1) right by Jones, and the refs call it a good goal!!! The New York Islanders would hold on for the 3-2 win and the series sweep! Bergeron, easily the series MVP with 4 goals and 2 assists.
Good season Pat!
