Game 1 was an instant classic. Phoenix jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 6 minutes. Toronto answered with 1 late in the 1st and tied it early in the 2nd. Bryan Little’s 2nd of the game put the Leafs ahead 3-2 early in the 3rd. Mid-season acquisition Semyon Varlamov was making it stand until Ryan O’Reilly tied the game in the final minute. Then the drama took off and this game was not ended until Max Pacioretty scored a PPG, his 2nd goal of the game, at 9:14 of the 3rd OT period.
Phoenix 4-3 in 3 OT, Phoenix leads series 1-0.
Game 2 was not a classic. Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux helped the Leafs rebound with a goal in each of the first 2 shifts. Bryan Little closed out the period with his 3rd of the playoffs and a 3-0 Toronto lead. Crosby was at it again to start the 2nd, and the Leafs added 2 more and chased Anton Khudobin when it got to 6-0 at 7:13 of the 2nd period. Phoenix scored twice to cut it to 6-2. But Crosby scored again to start the 3rd and Toronto rolled to an 8-2 win.
Toronto 8-2, series tied 1-1.
