Wow. Two great games of strat playoff hockey.
Game 3: 12 minutes into the game Fleury stopped Nyquist on a Goal
1-18, fans prematurely celebrated. Shots were in favor of NY 18-13
after one period, no score. Toews would get the party started 11
minutes into the 2nd but Nyquist quickly answered. 1-1 after 2
periods. Joe Thornton gave the Lightning a brief lead, Bergeron found
the net 2 minutes later. Stalock stopped Sharp but couldn’t stop
Kopitar on the rebound. Brouwer took a penalty with 7 minutes to go
but the Islanders could not convert. Stalock went to the bench and
Trouba found himself with an outside shot with 2 cards to go… Fires,
GR… Scores! 3-3 headed to overtime. Islander fans were excited when
Sharp took a penalty early in OT but NY could not convert. Troy
Brouwer got a fine inside pass and rifled one by Stalock to give Tampa
game 3. 4-3 finish, what a game!
Game 4: Nyquist quickly found the back of the net on the 2nd card. Of
course that didn’t last long… Ladd rips an inside shot over Stalock.
After not scoring in the regular season Michael Grabner breaks his
drought and gives the Islanders a 2-1 lead. Trading goals again, Hossa
gets beyond the defense and scores. Moments later Scandella trips up
his man giving Tampa their first opportunity. Byfuglien wasted no time
scoring 5 seconds into the PP. Tampa would take a 3-2 lead into the
2nd period. Sharp did take a bad penalty at the end of the 1st that
would prove costly early in the 2nd. Bergeron scored quickly to tie
the game at 3 goals each and that is how we entered the 3rd period.
Bergeron scored his 2nd goal of the game and the Islanders played
smart and defensively for the remainder of the contest. Nyquist added
his 2nd of the night for good measure and the Islanders take Game 4 by
a score of 5-3.
Good luck, Thanks,
Kevin – NYI
