Dallas Stars results

dallas stars uniformThe 11th place Dallas Stars are just 5 points back of the 8th & Final Playoff spot, currently held by the New Jersey Devils! Coach Dale Hunter says “I believe we have a chance, like last year when we didn’t win a home game in regulation until game 14 & then we had a great finish to make the show! Course,we didn’t last long as the Champion Lightning took us out ,but I believe in our guys” We’ve just got to start winning at home & improve that 9-14-2 record at American Airlines Arena.

TAMPA BAY- With a comfortable 1st place lead, the Lightning, who won 2-1 earlier in the season in Dallas, was at the other end of a 2-1 game this time! Rookie Netminder Philipp Grubauer outdueled the Bolts Marc-Andre Fleury by making 39 saves(9/9 gr’s) to earn 1st Star! The “Chairman of the Boards” Brooks Orpik scored in the 1st period & Jerome Iginla scored in the 2nd to lead the Offense! Zdeno Chara(1-5+) scored on the PP in the 3rd for the Bolts lone tally!

NEW JERSEY- Devils score twice in the 1st period, then Brayden Schenn notches his 2nd of the night in period 2 for a 3-0 lead, then they sit back & let the “KING” do the rest ! Stars score twice & get a last card rating by Eric Karlsson ,but Henrik Lundqvist(MVP) says no ratings allowed! The”King” stops 40 shots(9/9 gr’s)! Coach Hunter “We cant catch em, if we cant beat em , that was a heartbreaker”

SAN JOSE- Cory Schneider stops 26 shots(6/6 gr’s)to register his 1st Shutout of the season in a 3-0 score! The Sharks, picked by many(well, Swami anyway)to challenge for the Cup, seemed to have lost their bite, as they sink into the abyss of the GHC Standings! Ryan Kesler scored twice to head the Stars attack!

COLORADO- The Avs Semyon Varlamov & the Stars Cory Schneider almost didnt make it to period two, as both Goalies seen the Red Light turn on behind them 3 times in the opening 20 minutes! The Avs Mike Richards scored twice in that period! Period Two saw Martin St Louis get his 2nd of the day & R.J. Umberger netted one for Dallas! It was 4-4 into the final stanza & Colorado’s Mark Giordano scored on the Power-Play for a 5-4 lead ! Jerome Iginla then tied the score & got another to send Varlamov to the showers, as Dallas led 6-5! A last card rating by Mike Cammalleri somehow found Schneider’s glove as the horn sounded, giving Dallas a 6-5 Victory!

TORONTO- A better defensive effort by the Stars featuring 9 Intimadation Hits helped Cory Schneider to his 2nd Shutout in his last 3 starts! A 25 save(6/6 gr’s) 2-0 score gave the Stars their 1st 3-game winning streak at home this year! Nick Backstrom & Daniel Alfredsson got the Goals for Dallas, as they fired 45 shots at Kari Lehtonen, who kept his Leafs in this contest!

The Avs went with a youthful roster for block 6 and decide to sit all players that were involved in trade deadline deals. With Martin St Louis, Symeon Varlamov, Mike Cammelerri, Fedor Tyutin, Francois Beauchemin, Jan Hejda and Braydon Coburn all out of the lineup, management inserted prospects Brock Nelson, Sami Vatanen, and Matt Donovan, while also dressing previous healthy scratches Ales Hemsky and Karl Alzner.

The result was an astounding 5-0 block. Ryan Johansen led the charge by scoring 7 goals and adding 2 assists over the home stand, while the secondary scoring was spread throughout the lineup. Tuukka Rask held opponents to a mere 8 goals over 5 games. Avs coaches and management were utterly surprised with the results and look forward adding the likes of Pekka Rinne, Anders Lee and Frans Nielsen to the lineup for the next two blocks. Management is also excited about adding many more young players to this rebuilding franchise, as the Avs will now have 11 rookie draft picks in the upcoming draft. The Avs have acquired several picks through deadline deals and have the following picks at the 2015 draft. The franchise, although the path may take time and patience, continues to build a team that will hopefully be a top contender for years.

Sharks Battle Blues
Sharks Battle Blues

Well I decided to go with some hockey smarts this game and not Strat percentages. Mike Smith stunk against New Jersey in the game previous so he is benched and also poor defensive cards of Filip Forsberg and Ryan Murphy are inserted into the lineup to try and boost the powerplay against a very tough looking San Jose lineup. Once the game got to the third period all I could think was , “please get to overtime, please get to overtime, please get to overtime”. The San JOse club looked stacked and all I wanted was the one point if I could pull it off. But the Blues shock even themselves. They get three goalie rating chances late in the game and in overtime, but Jaroslav Halak stopped them all. Then Kyle Turris scores on a 1-17 when the powerplay is over and the Blues are surprised and elated to pick up a win against an elite club. Strat dice luck fell our way in this one, as Niemi picks up first star stopping 4/5 goalie ratings and 27/28 shots the Sharks threw their way. The Sharks Halak was also outstanding stoppiung 5/6 and 37/39 shots. In the end Forsberg and Murphy never helped the powerplay as the Blues went 0/2.
