Winnipeg block 3 results

WINNIPEGWHITE

dallaslogoWINNIPEG- The newly-relocated Winnipeg Jets, who left the desert for a cold spot in Manitoba, erased the Stars lead twice, to pull off a 3-2 Win at American Airlines Arena! Josh Bailey staked Dallas to a 1-0 lead in the 1st period, but the Jets Bobby Ryan answered that! Stars again take lead in period two, as Ryan Kesler bangs in a rebound, but again the Jets reply, as Veteran Jason Spezza ties it up at two! Just 29 seconds into period three, the Jets Captain “The Big Pavelski” scores what proves to be the Game-Winner, as Cam Ward slams the door shut, stopping 36 shots(5/7 gr’s) in picking up 2nd Star of the game!
VANCOUVERLOGO1
VANCOUVER- Coach Dale Hunter wanted a little more toughness in the line-up as Vancouver had both Zach Kassian & Derek Dorsett dressed for this contest! Youngster Tom Wilson was inserted onto the 4th line in case of any fireworks by the visitors! The fireworks came off the stick of Nick Backstrom, who scored twice in the 1st period for a 2-0 lead for the Stars! In the 2nd, Vancouver sandwiched Goals by Loui Eriksson & David Krejci around a Ryan Kesler score to trail 3-2 heading to period three! Pavel Datsyuk restored 2 Goal lead in 3rd, but it didn’t last long. Daniel Sedin scores with just over 2 minutes left & its a one Goal game again. T. J. Brodie takes a late tripping call, but Dallas wins the draw & runs out the Clock! Stars outhit Vancouver 9-2 in game, led by Tom Wilson’s two Bone-Crushing Hits on the youngster Alex Galchenyuk! There was no response from Dorsett, but he did take down that number for future references!

MINNESOTA- R U Kidding Me! An unbelievable performance by the Wild’s Jonathan Quick, in what could be a Dallas Record that we are NOT proud of! Sir Jonathan stops 51( that’s Fifty-one)Shots(8/8 gr’s) in a 3-0 Shutout over the misfiring Stars! I believe thats the most shots I’ve ever had in getting skunked! Kinda knew I was in trouble when Quick stopped J. T. Miller on a 1-19(20)! Quick survived 5 Dallas Power-Plays & all that rubber thrown at him! Rookie Mark Stone, Veteran Henrik Zetterberg, & James Wisniewski scored for the Wild! Wisniewski & partner Hampus Lindholm were on the ice (+3)for all the Wilds Goals! Coach Dale Hunter “Don’t ever remember a game where we got 50 shots & couldn’t score” Kiss my %#&@ :

islanders2NEW YORK- The Isle led 2-0 early in period two on Goals by Gus Nyqvist & Mike Fisher & the Stars were wondering if they would ever score again after last game! The Captain, Erik Karlsson, put that to rest as he beat Devan Dubynk to cut lead in half! Cam Atkinson sniped one & we headed to period 3 tied at 2 apiece! Mike Fisher would get his 2nd of the game & the Islanders led 3-2 late in period three! With just under two minutes left, Mike Hoffman was all alone in the slot & he blasted one by Dubynk at 18:03 to tie game & send it to Overtime! A penalty to Datsyuk was fought off in OT, as the teams headed to a Shootout! Pavel atoned his penalty in the Overtime by Scoring the GDG in the Shootout giving Dallas a 4-3 Win. Woo!
bruinsalternate
BOSTON- Petr Mrazek, a 2nd round (23rd overall)Rookie Draft pick this year, got his 1st GHC start in his career & stops 34 shots(3/4 gr’s) in a 3-2 Stars Win! The Bruins left muttering to themselves about the “Hasek-Like” saves made by Mrazek, as he flashed the leather on Jamie Benn(1-13), Mats Zuccarello(1-10), & Kyle Brodziak(1-6) to get 2nd Star of the game! 1st Star Brad Marchand got the GW Goal in the 3rd period, breaking a 2-2 tie, & also assisted on Nick Backstrom’s 2nd period Goal! The B’s scored both their Goals on the Power-Play, as Corey Perry & Tyler Toffoli lit the lamp behind the Rookie! The Line of Marchand,Backstrom, & Tom Wilson were a +2 vs the B’s Top Line of Jamie Benn,Steven Weiss, & Corey Perry! Coach Hunter liked the play of hard-hitting youngster Tom Wilson on B’s Star Jamie Benn saying ” He (Wilson)was just enough of a thorn in Benn’s side to take him off his game”

Game 1 St Louis
A real tight battle for two periods with both teams exchanging a pair of goals. The wheels come off the cart for the Avs in the third as the Blues rip 4 consecutive goals in the final frame to cruise to a 6-2 win. Pekka Rinne continues to struggle after a strong first block.

Game 2 Minnesota
Antti Raanta gets his first start of the season and the Wild don’t mind one bit. Two quick goals in the first 9 minutes pace the visitors to a 2-0 lead after one. Minnesota adds another in the second to make it 3-0. Zetterberg makes it 4-0 29 seconds into the third as the Avalanche continue to be denied by Quick. Alex Killorn finally beats Quick but the All-Star goaltender would allow no more, going 11 for 12 on GR, as the Wild pick up 2 points in a solid 4-1 victory.

Game 3 Vancouver
Rask returns between the pipes as the coaching staff finally decides to go with the hot hand. Colorado rookie Ryan Spooner finds some chemistry with winger Anders Lee, with the former scoring two goals on feeds from the freshman to pace the Avs to a 3-2 win over the Canucks.

Game 4 Boston
Rask is back in to face the Bruins attack. Boston scores quickly as Jannik Hansen buries a goal at 3:18 of the first. Spooner finds Lee again to tie the game midway through the frame. Sami Vatanen blasts a G (roll 9 on rebound) on the power play to give the Avs a 2-1 lead after one. It was all Boston the rest of the way, as they outshoot the Avs 10-1 and 12-3 in the second and third period. But Rask was a wall, stopping everything his way to preserve the win for Colorado.

Game 5 NYI
Rinne gets the start versus the visiting Islanders and his troubles continue. Isles jump to a 2-0 lead after one on goals by Steen and Trouba. Nyquist makes it 3-0 in the second. Barrie replies for the home team on the PP but the Avs still trail 3-1 after two. Cole restores the 3 goal lead for NY in the third. Anders Lee scores in the dying seconds to make it a 4-2 final.

Footnotes:
Another rough home stand in Colorado without captain Giordano in the lineup. Adam Larsson also missed all 5 home games as did centers Nugent Hopkins and Zemgus Girgensons. Yakupov was a healthy scratch with the flying V rookies Vincent Trochek and Victor Rask getting an opportunity to play their first GHCL games. Ryan Spooner, who lit a fire under Anders Lee, also looked good in his first 5 games of his career.

Tampa Bay Block 2

Much better results for the Bolts in block 2 as they go 5-0…….

WPG @ TB: both goalies sent to the showers early in a wild 7-6 TB victory capped off by a Thornton goal with 39 seconds left.

STL @ TB: Lehner rebounds with solid game against the Blues, but the defense was the story as the Bolts held the Blues high-powered offense to only 2 quality scoring chances en route to a 2-0 win.

SJ @ TB: Teams trade first period goals then turn things over to the goalies as both Talbot and Lehner were solid. OT penalty to the Sharks led to Captain Serious getting the extra point for the home team in a 2-1 OT win.

BUF @ TB: Bolts race out to a 3-0 lead but give it all back leading to a shootout……and in sudden death it’s Teddy Purcell (what?!?!?) with the winner in the shootout, 4-3 TB final.

NJ @ TB: Huberdeau scores twice for the visitors but Kopitar’s goal midway thru the 3rd period stands up as the Bolts complete the perfect block with a gritty 3-2 win over the Devils.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving boys!!!

Block 2 Dallas at St.Louis

dallas old uniforms

bluesoriginaljerseyblue

The Blues get Carey Price back in net hoping to stop their three game losing streak. Mind you , you cannot blame Vasilevskiy for the losing streak when the Blues can only score 4 goals in 3 games. St.Louis comes out firing in the first two periods but Schneider was equal to the task playing a very good hockey game.
But Rick Nash finally solves the Dallas netminder scoring on an inside shot. The Blues then go into defensive mode in the third and we seriously have to rethink that strategy. Dallas has the peddle on the metal and outshoots the Blues 17-3 while St.Louis sits in a 1-1. Carey Price stops most of the outside shots and picks up a much needed win and shutout over a very good Dallas squad.

bluesThe Wild outplay and dominate the Blues for two periods, but St.Louis finds a way to tie in the third. But the Wild keep Andrei Vasilevskiy winless in the Howe League as Carey Price sits out again tonight as Minnesota picks up a well deserved 2-1 shootout victory.

In a word frustrating. One of those Strat god games where they are not looking down on you. Everyone gets 3-5 each year I know. You just do not like when they come. You know things will be bad when Nick Foligno gets a goal 1-18 and you draw a 19 split card. Oh man, it just went down hill from there. Carey Price , who is usually awesome with his card, stops only 50% of the goalie ratings, and can’t tell you how many times the Blues were unsuccessful on a 1-13 penetration chance on the powerplay. With that you then see Toews scored a shorthanded goal. Ugh… just one of those games where the only luck you seem to have is bad luck. The Blues outshoot Tampa 40-21 but end up on the back end of a 3-1 score.
