For the third time in four games , the Blues again so to the shootout. They had lost their two previous tries so people were starting to think NJ Devils of 2013. But Mark Scheifele was the hero beating Martin Jones in the shootout and the Blues pull out a 3-2 win. Islanders outshot the Blues in this one. St.Louis had a 2-1 lead heading into the third period on goals by Brent Burns and Emerson Etem. But their 1-1 defense never lasted as Kyle Okposo scored on the powerplay as the Blues ran into penalty trouble in the third.

Wow , what a powerhouse the Kings are. Championship material for sure on this club. Blues keep the game close until the very end when the Kings pull away. Patrick Kane scored twice late to put this one to bed. Carey Price had to be his best to just keep this thing close. Blues still winless at home in block one as they drop this one 3-1.

The Blues run into a very hot goaltender in Philipp Grubauer. Grubauer continually stoned the Blues at every opportunity as the cards flowed in the Blues favor. St.Louis had shot after shot on the young Dallas netminder but nothing got through . Even in the shootout the Blues had two more goalie ratings the Grubauer stood tall. In all he stopped shots, and 13/14 goalie ratings on the night including the shootout. Carey Price was terrific (5/5 gr) but not good enough on this night. For the second night in a row the Blues lose in a shootout.

Sabres home games block 1

buffalo uniformStl-5 Buf-3 : Sabres score on 1st shot of the year as Taylor Hall buries a breakaway by Price. Late in the 1st, Bergenheim beats Bobrovsky twice in 1:13, but former Blue Phaneuf ties it at 2-2 after 1. 1st card of the 2nd Hall scores again, but from there it was all St Louis as Turris ties it-Stafford puts the Blues ahead – and Turris ices it with his 2nd goal of the game.

Buf-5 LA-3 : Despite being outshot 16-9 in each of the 1st 2 periods (and 43-30 for the game) the Sabres outscored the Kings 2-1 in each period and traded goals in the 3rd for Buffalo’s 1st win of the season.

Dal-4 Buf-2 : The Stars ran roughshod over the Sabres 16-2 in shots and 3-zip in goals in the 1st. The Sabres fought back to make it 3-2 after 2 periods, but Nick Backstrom (not the former Sabre netminder) scored his 2nd of the game midway thru the 3rd to ice the victory.

Buf-4 Phi-3 : Matt Read and Drew Doughty lit the lamp in the 1st and the Sabres were listless (again) and down 2-0 after one. Then a “too many men on the ice” penalty opened the door and Krug finally got one by Crawford and Desharnais tied it up 2-2 after 2. Desharnais scored again early in the 3rd, but Read scored his 2nd to knot it up once more. The GWG came off the stick of Pominville and 2 late penalties kept Philly from mounting any comeback.
