Dallas Block 2

Subject: Pho,Chi,Nyi,Phi,Nj @ Dallas(block 2)

Phoenix- King Kong just fell off Coach Dale Hunter’s back,as the Stars win their 1st Home game of the season 5-2! The Stars, who were outscored 23-9 in losing their 1st 5 home games had the Zebra’s on their side! It was a 1-1 game into the 3rd period, when the Coyotes started a parade to the penalty box! Two PP Goals by Dallas & 4 straight scores, two by Brad Marchand (one on the PP)doubled their total of PP Goals scored thru 1st 5 home games(one). Joe Pavelski added a late PPG to account for the Final score.

Chicago- An injury-ridden Hawks team, without snipers Steven Stamkos,John Tavares, & Logan Couture were not needed,as Braden Holtby stops 39 shots(6/6 gr’s) in a 2-1 Win! Blackhawk penalty-killing was superb in fighting off 4 Power-Plays, while Jakub Voracek scored on the PP to tie game, after Erik Karlsson had scored on a Breakaway for Dallas! All the scoring was done in period two, as former Islander Brad Richards got the Game-Winning Goal!

New York- Cam Fowler & Erik Karlsson exchanged Goals in the 1st period, then the Islanders dominated the second period outshooting Dallas 17-3,but they couldn’t score on Peter Budaj! a 1-1 game into the 3rd & R. J. Umberger rips a 36 footer(snake eyes 1-12 outside) by rookie netminder Alex Stalock to give Stars a 2-1 lead! With time winding down, Ryan Kesler took his 3rd trip to the penalty box, this time alone,as with the other two trips he had taken sniper Alex Steen with him. The Stars needed a kill & they got it, as the horn sounded, giving Dallas their 2nd home Win on the season. Peter Budaj,in perhaps his best performance in a Stars uniform, stopped 42 shots & (7/8 gr’s).

Philadelphia- The Stars forwards were blanked again,as Corey Crawford stops 32 shots in a 3-1 Win! Erik Karlsson scored the lone Dallas Goal, the 3rd straight game he has scored! The Stars only have 4 Goals in last 3 home games & 3 were by their Star Defenseman Karlsson. Umberger, who had the winner vs the Isle is the lone Forward to score in those three games! 3rd Star Drew Doughty got the GW Goal for Philly, while Jeff Skinner & Matt Read had the other markers! Flyer Defenseman Mark Stuart, also good on face-offs(ha),led all players with 4 Intimadation Hits, sending the Stars to their 7th loss in 9 games at home!

New Jersey- The Devil’s get out to a 2-0 lead midway thru the 2nd period on Goals by youngster Jonathan Huberdeau in the 1st period & Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr in the 2nd! Cam Atkinson cut lead in half with his 1st home score of the season, then in the 3rd, Stars tie game with a PPG by R. J. Umberger! Two Dallas forwards had scored for the 1st time in four home games & the crowd was a buzz! The clock runs out & were headed to Overtime! Just 20 seconds left till a shootout, when Stars Erik Karlsson slips a pass across the ice & Brad Marchand one-times it by Lundqvist for a 3-2 OT Win! Stars Goalie Cory Schneider got his 1st home Win of the season after 4 losses!

The Season is underway & the GHC has selected the 3 Stars of the Month! The 1st Star is Buffalo’s Andrew Shaw, who leads the League in Goals with 9,getting Hat Tricks in Dallas & at home vs the Islanders! Andrew, who has been playing mostly on the 4th line & moving up to the 3rd line in the last period, has asked Coach Phil Housley for more playing time,to which Housley responded ” I’ll decide where he plays,he’s got to remember that he’s playing against 4th liners now,can he handle 1st or 2nd liners in this league, thats the Question mark!”

The 2nd Star is the Blue’s netminder Carey Price, who registered 3 shutouts thru the 1st 10 games of the season, including two on the road! Carey led his team to a League-Best 16 Goals against! The Blues have allowed 6 PPG’s,which means at even-strength,thru 10 games, they have only allowed 10 Goals, best in the League!

The 3rd Star of the month,we have a tie(got to butter up the Commish, who does a Great, thankless,Job)as “King” Henrik Lundqvist shares the honors with the Bolts Marc-Andre Fleury. Lundqvist leads the League in Saves % & also has all 6 Wins for the Devil’s, & is 2nd in Star Points to the Leader Fleury! Marc-Andre,who leads the League in Star Points & Wins with 8,has his Bolts with the 2nd best Goals-Against,allowing just 17 thru 10 games! The Bolts Goaltending Coach Eddie Belfour commented ” If you look at his card, I mean the video’s ,you’ll see Marc doesnt give up many Rebounds, which in this league is dangerous! He(Marc)controls rebounds as well as any Goalie in this League”!
ghc2
ODDS & ENDS- Jordan Eberle has 5 PPG to lead the League & his Coyotes are over 50% on the PP! Jordan’s 5 Goals are more than what 6 teams have scored on the PP so far(Dal,Min,Sj,Chi,Phi, & Van)
Marian Hossa has 4 Game-Winning Goals to lead the League, thats more than 4 teams have in the Win column(Dal,Phi,Van, & Col)
Taylor Hall ,last years Rocket Richard(most Goals in League)Winner, leads the League in Points(17) & PIM(21)gotta stay out of the box kid!
Is the 2nd Pair better than the 1st pair? We have two 2nd defense pairs leading the League in plus-minus at a +10,as Brent Burns & Josh Georges(Stl) & Matt Carle & Niklas Hjalmarsson(Tb) are all tied for the League Lead!
The NOT SO GOOD NEWS- St Louis declines the Penalty! The Blues(Oliver Ekman-Larsson has it)have only scored ONE PPG in 24 chances for a League-Low 4.2% ! Blues PP Coach Ilya Kovalchuk says ” My comrades got to get more bodies to the net & shoot more from the Point”
Travis Zajac (Van) has the worst plus-minus(-11)in the League,to which Coach Otteson responded ” I got him(Travis)out against the best lines in the League,He’s playing on a checking line that aint checking, they all(his linemates Boyes & Laich)think they are Rushers & sometimes Crushers, but if they dont play better, I’ll make them Ushers”

Dallas- The Stars are off to their worst start in franchise history, having lost their 1st 5 games on home ice, & the rumours are again swirling in Texas,is Coach Dale Hunter job on the line! GM Steve Yzerman barked ” The Coach cant put the puck in the net, We’re the lowest scoring team in the League & we’re not playing very good defense either! I’ll take some responsibility for trading away Matt Niskanen for Goalie Nick Backstrom, that hasnt worked out very well! I’ve got confidence in Dale, they had a slow start last year but snuck in to the show(playoffs),dont count us out just yet!

Things never went Philly’s way in this one. The Strat gods were just not on their side as all the good cards seem to fall in the Blues favour for a change.
Blues win their first game of the year in regulation as Carey Price picks up the shutout and Kyle Turris scores twice as the Blues win it 4-0.

Block 1 LA Kings

losangeles uniform

The Kings open up their home schedule with some sporadic injuries which resulted in some sporadic scoring for the home team, averaging only 2 goals per game but they survive with a 2-1-2 record to start the season. The only team to lose in regulation on LA ice was Boston, everyone else earned at least 1 road point.

The first 3 games went to a shootout with the same final score of 3-2 with the visitors earning 2 of 3 victories in extra, extra time.
Thanks,
Pat
